A short review of magnetovolume effects and a volume dependence of the basic magnetic interactions in the iron-rich rare earth intermetallics will be presented. It will be based mainly on our extensive studies of the pressure dependence of magnetisation, a.c. susceptibility, pressure dependence of the Curie temperature, spin reorientation transition temperature and thermal expansion performed on single crystalline and polycrystallines of R(FeM)12, R2(FeM)17 and R3(FeM)29 [R-rare earth, M-light transition metal] compounds.
